TUI NA MASSAGE
NEW FOR 2015
Ranbir Virk practises the traditional Chinese deep tissue massage, Tui Na. During a Tui Na session the client remains fully clothed while the therapist uses a range of techniques to relax muscles and clear blockages within the body's physical and energy systems. Tui Na can help with many health conditions or be used as a form of relaxation.
Brief explanation of the therapy
Tui Na is one of the most ancient healing arts of traditional Chinese medicine, along with acupuncture and herbal medicine. The earliest writings on Chinese medicine are in the Nei Ching, translated as The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine, dating back to 2300BC. This monumental treatise has several chapters on massage. Although, Tui Na has been practised in China for more than 4000 years and is available in hospitals and clinics, it is only now becoming known in the West.
The name Tui Na comes from the Chinese and conveys the vigorous nature of the hands-on healing system: "Tui" means "push" and "Na" means grasp. Tui Na as practised in China treats conditions that in the West would require an osteopath, chiropractor, physiotherapist or sports therapist. However, Tui Na works not only on the muscles and joints but also at a deeper level, affecting the flow of vital energy in the body. In Chinese theory this life energy, Qi (pronounced "chee") permeates the Whole universe; it is the activating force for all life, in the Qi flows in channels called meridians and supplies energy to all the body tissues and the mind.
Tui Na applies pressure to the Meridians and specific points on them, affecting the flow in Qi so that it moves freely and evenly through the body. The distribution of Qi within the body has profound effects of your well being - the emotional, spiritual and the physical. Chinese medicine's view is that all disease is caused by imbalances and blockages in the flow of Qi. When your Qi-flow is balanced you feel relaxed, confident, full of energy and enthusiasm. You are free from stiffness or aches and pains and full of vigour; you "sparkle" with energy. Most of us know this feeling, however, experience it only rarely. For much of the time we operate below optimal energy level.

What can the client expect at the appointment
Tui Na works holistically to balance Qi- flow throughout the body, mind and spirit. A trained practitioner will ask questions about a patients health and make careful observations, to discover where the Qi is imbalanced. This will indicate which Meridians need to be treated to restore harmony and the specific points on were treatment will be most effective.
The active communications between giver and receiver and an awareness between them is a fundamental part of Tui Na. During the massage, feedback from the patient on what feels good or painful, guides the practitioner to the points to treat and the amount of pressure to use. Along thorough medical history; pulse and tongue diagnosis an indication of the imbalance can be ascertained through symptoms that are apparent.
What will happen in the session
The client will be treated for the condition that is most troubling them; they will be warmed up and then a deeper massage will be given depending on how much pressure they are comfortable with. Then more pressure will be applied in the following treatments as is appropriate.
How many sessions should the client need before they see a result
Dependent on what the condition is and other adjustments that may need to be made in their lifestyle. Tui Na provides complete stimulation of the body's entire musculo-skeletal system, as well as all internal organs. In most cases a Tui Na treatment leaves the recipient feeling enlivened, happy and sparkling with energy.
